A Reminder

4 min read
I wrote this journal entry a few days ago and it failed to show on my profile or be saved to Sta.sh at all.  So, writing it again but with less patience.

As a general rule, I do not give permission for my fractals to be included in others' artwork.  I also will not release the original full-sized renders or parameter files.  If you have any questions regarding my personal policy, please send me a Note and I will do my best to clear things up.

I'm not being a bitch, keep reading.

When I've finished a render, I pop it into Photoshop for reformatting and resizing.  I'll usually play around with it a bit, some sharpening and/or a filter usually.  If I like the results, they become part of the final piece.  It takes me so long to be happy with anything I produce that it's all I can stand to have done to them.  A couple of years ago a family member suggested that I use a piece I had just shown them in a photomanipulation and I physically flinched.  I enjoy well-done manips, Jerry Uelsmann is one of my favorite artists but it's not for me.

Here's the deal: If you've read this and you think you can change my mind, you can save the image of the fractal that you would like to alter simply by going to its page, right-clicking on it and choosing the Save As... option.  Most of mine don't have watermarks anymore.  Once you are finished, let me know via Note (and include the results if you can.)  If I approve, then I will release it for that one use only.  I am only doing this on a case-by-case basis, I will not give anyone general permission for the foreseeable future.

I'm not full-on OCD, more like Obsessive Lite.  Still weird but without all the compulsions that make life extra difficult.

To be clear, I'm not that worried about art theft springing from this.  As I mentioned before, my originals and parameters are not up for grabs.  All my files have my name and the date that I finalized them embedded in them, plus there's not much one can do with a 900x600 px file as far as prints go.

Thanks for reading, I really do appreciate it.

If I edit any of my pieces beyond rotation and resizing, it's just sharpening, smoothing or maybe a filter.  I can't stand to do anything beyond that.  My family members suggested that I turn one of my pieces into a photomanipulation once and I physically cringed.  I think well-done photomanips are great, Jerry Uelsmann is one of my favorite artists.  It's just not something I've ever wanted to get into, personally and I can't really see how anything I've submitted to dA would work in another format.

If you wish to try and change my mind, you can right click on the fractal you would like to alter, save it (most of them no longer have watermarks,) play with it and then PM me the results.  If I approve, I'll release permission for its public use.  I will never release general consent, everything will be on a case-by-case basis.

Also: I'm not terribly worried about art thieves.  I have all of my original parameters for both UF and Apo, there's not much one can do in the way of prints with a 900x600 px source file and all of my renders have the date they were last edited embedded in them.

I haven't been very active on dA lately but I have quietly been creating new pieces.  It's been difficult to wrap my head around making fractals for my own pleasure instead of trying to emulate the latest techniques.

::News::

I am not on hiatus by choice, my PC's power supply has died.  I have access to my husband's machine sporadically but it has no Ultra Fractal anything and none of my current Apophysis parameters.  I am waiting ever so patiently until we can afford a new power supply for me but things like rent, the electric bill and gas for the car sort of take priority for now.  I really want to let everyone who has dropped me a fave recently know that I appreciate each and every single one.  I'm especially grateful to NatalieKelsey for giving me a Daily Deviation on what was already my own personal favorite amongst my creations.  Thank you Natalie, you've helped me decide on at least one piece to take to next year's art show!

::In Other News::

I have stores at redbubble and at Zazzle now.  You should go take a look...you know you want to.
